ENGLEWOOD — Since nearly the time Englewood was founded, the community has been defined by many different things: Early on, it was a fishing town, then a place for agriculture homesteaders; a tourist destination and a good spot for a winter home or a retirement destination.

But for most of its history, Englewood has earned a reputation of an artists and arts-loving community. The tradition includes notable artists of the past like Lois Bartlett Tracy, Margaret Albritton and Jim Sears, and art magnets like the world-famous artists retreat, The Hermitage on Manasota Key, the Arts Alliance of Lemon Bay, and the Englewood Art Center, which is part of the Ringling Museum.
